Book Review: Learning and being in person-centred counselling by Tony Merry

Updated: Mar 21, 2022

This is my all time favourite textbook on Person-Centred counselling. It is a very in-depth whilst still being an easy read, so for someone like myself with dyslexia it ticks all the boxes for a theory book.

whats also important about this book is the relevance of theory to practice. I think for students who are beginning to look at starting their placement hours, this book is perfect to introduce them realistically who someone may present in therapy. Although many text book gives activities for the reader to complete, I believe I enjoyed the activities this book gives (and a bonus that you can do with colleagues).

I would consider this book a core text for anyone studying Person-Centred counselling but will also be relavent to other modalities like CBT and integrative as it looks at the importance of the relationship between practitioner and client.

5/5
