I will start this post by saying this is the 7th attempt at reading this book. I’m going to lay it out here, the book is horrible! It’s difficult to follow and the constant terminology used to appear scientific takes away from the flow of the meaning behind social interactions and ego states.

The beginning few chapters explaining the basics of Transactional Analysis are quite good and get right to the point. It’s the chapters after that which are a very hard read. I found this book quite disengaging also due to the avid sexism where I immediately ’turned off’. I’m aware this book was wrote in the 60s, however I find it infuriating the constant examples of women, ‘women talk’, a husband being controlling to save his wife from herself etc.

I would not recommend this book at all for learning about Transactional Analysis as I feel more modern books will cover this in layman’s terms.
